  • I have so many good memories from childhood, but a recent favorite involved my 8 year old grandson. He has Asperger’s and is afraid of the dark. Seeing all those costumes in the dark really scared him, so last year I bought a couple hundred glow stick bracelets. As we were walking around, when he got scared of the costumes, he would give the kids a bracelet and then he was okay. It made for a great time for both of us. This year he can’t wait to go out. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • My mom used to make my costumes every year. Little Red Riding Hood, a witch, a clown, an angel, a kitty. Really good costumes too, we passed them along to family members they were so well made & detailed. We used to go to the pumpkin patch to pick our own pumpkins & we’d get a bushel basket of apples & a huge jug of apple cider. We’d keep the apples on the (enclosed but unheated) front porch to stay cool & we’d have over a month of homemade apple pie, apple crisp, apple brown betty & apple cake.
My dad would put our jack o lantern on the tray of a step ladder & put a broom stick across the ladder below the pumpkin & drape it with a sheet so it looked like a ghost with a jack o lantern head. We had tapes of spooky music that we would play. For a few years we had a life sized doll made of pantyhose that we’d dress as a witch. My dad would crouch down in the porch & wave her arms with a piece of wire & make her talk.
Halloween will always be my fav holiday!

  • I guess my best Halloween was one when I was about 7 years old. I was tired of always dressing up as cutesy princesses, lovely bumblebees or ladybugs so I decided, very last minute, that I was going to be a “scary ghost.” I made my own costume. I took a bed sheet, cut two wholes for my eyes (they weren’t very even!!) and just wore that thing and felt so proud that I wasn’t a “pretty princess” like the other girls, haha. I just remember feeling a little embarrassed that everyone was laughing at my two uneven eyes but, I was still proud that I did it ๐Ÿ™‚
