It’s time again for Say It Again Sunday! What Am I Teaching Gracie first appeared on Sonya’s Happenings… February 10, 2013. We were actually talking about Gracie’s “lonely” bathroom with one of my friends yesterday on a girls day out. We had a GREAT time! Read on to learn more about Gracie’s “lonely” bathroom and what I’m teaching Gracie and how I’m trying really hard to change!
What in the world am I teaching Gracie? I didn’t realize it, but I’m exposing her to some of the same stuff I was taught growing up. Poor kid, I’m going to ruin her!
We were both in my bathroom Saturday morning getting ready for her ballgame. She doesn’t use her bathroom because “it’s lonely.” Don’t ask me why “it’s lonely,” but “it’s lonely” to Gracie and she only uses my bathroom. My bathroom is little and we were crowded in. She was getting out of the shower while I was fixing my hair and bumped into me. It caused me to drop my mirror. I yelled “Oh, please don’t break, it’s bad luck for 7 years, we just don’t need any more bad luck.” She looked at me serious as a heart attack and said “Do you really believe that?”
I thought about it for a second and didn’t answer her right away, because I know the answer that I should give her. It should be no, I don’t believe that at all, it’s just a silly superstition. I answered her this way though, so I didn’t have to lie “I was brought up believing this Gracie. My Dad was very superstitious.” This way, I didn’t have to say I do believe it and that mirror better not have broke because now we are going to be bad off off for 7 more years!
I can’t even think of all of the superstitions my Dad instilled within me. I know there was spilled salt, the red moon, a bird in the house, singing in the bed, walking under a ladder, opening an umbrella in the house, a black cat crossing your path and MANY more. I’m trying not to ingrain these into Gracie. I know that these superstitions aren’t real (I hope) but I’m not going to push my luck lol!
How about you, are you superstitious? Do you believe in any that I didn’t list above? By the way, the mirror didn’t break, thankfully. Life with Gracie is never dull but will be good for the next 7 years unless we break that mirror!
