It’s time again for Say It Again Sunday. Do You Have A Child With Asthma was first published on November 7, 2012. It’s hard dealing with a sick little girl, because you want them to feel good all the time and that’s just not possible. I love my little girl and it just kills me when she’s sick. Read on for my post from November-
I do. Poor little Gracie has had a time with her asthma this year. Her allergies are worse too. How do you handle it? Better yet, how do they handle it?
Gracie’s breathing is usually worse in the morning and at night. Her cough scares me at times. I worry about her. She’s on all asthma medications and we take them faithfully. A little known fact- I’m a respiratory therapist- but when it comes to my own child, I still worry.
I can’t sleep when she’s having so much trouble. I lay awake and listen to her breathe. The lack of sleep just about does me in. If I could rest, I would feel a whole lot better about the whole situation (I think) at least. My lack of rest doesn’t matter though. Gracie needs her rest and she sure isn’t getting hers while she is coughing her poor little head off or struggling to breathe.
Gracie handles it much better than I do. She’s a trooper at taking her meds. She sleeps when she can and does what she can. She’s gave up soccer because she is allergic to grass. Even though she takes allergy shots, the fresh cut (wet) grass caused a lot of problems. She’s taken up basketball and seems to really enjoy it.
Gracie has missed a ton of school so far this year. Maybe not a ton, but a lot. She still made the honor roll this 9 weeks, but that’s not really the point. I don’t mind having her at home with me at all, in fact I love having her home with me. I know that she needs to be at school.
Do you have a child with asthma? How do you handle it, do stay awake like me? This is my life with Gracie 🙂
