I was sent Other Bodies to read and review, written by Joel Ohman. It was a very hard read for me. Full disclosure, I am a Christian but abortion is hard for me to even think about. I had a hard time reading about it. It’s a fact of life for some, well, all. It’s up to all of us whether we stand for or against it. I just have a tender heart towards it.
Within the first three pages the young adults were having sex. That was really hard for me to grasp. I guess I just live kind of a sheltered life when it comes to this type of subject matter. I know that Mr. Ohman didn’t intend for the couple to have a relationship. If he could have waited at least a chapter to introduce this encounter, it might have helped me out mentally, somewhat. I felt so bad for Hattie, as I would any woman.
The decision of a an abortion is very personal. I know that can’t be an easy decision for anyone. She chose to have one, she wrestled with that decision. I don’t like when the baby had it’s feelings written in the book after it was aborted. It just seemed creepy. I’m sorry, it did.
While this book was not for me, it very well could be for you. I do not want to change anyone’s mind at all on reading this book. It’s just a very touchy subject and it a very raw subject to some. To me, it just breaks my heart.
