Gracie is very attached to her weenie dog, Katrina. Katrina is a refugee from hurricane Katrina, hence the name. Our church housed the human parents of Katrina’s Mom and Dad. Katrina was born here while their home was being rebuilt after the hurricane. Katrina’s family gave members of the church puppies after they were weaned. Gracie was one of the lucky recipients. What a blessing (most days) that dog has been to our family!
Gracie and Katrina have participated in the Greene County Dog Children’s Dog Show since kindergarten. For the first 3 years, she and Katrina won 1st place in the tail waggin’ contest. Boy, that dog can really wag her tail! Well, after the 4th year, I guess Katrina was getting older and just getting more tired. They received 2nd place that year. Just placing is quite an honor! Last year, Gracie and Katrina came in 4th place.
Well, today was the dog show. We get up bright and early (for a Saturday) and get ourselves ready. Gracie gives Katrina a pep talk. It was such a sweet one, she said “I know your your getting older and your tired. Just try to get 1st place. If you can’t get 1st place, get 3rd, we haven’t gotten that one yet.”
Gracie and Katrina waited until the tail waggin’ contest. It’s always one of the last competitions. We had a lot of fun watching all of the kids and their talented dogs. I’m always amazed at what some of the kiddo’s can get their dogs to do. We don’t do well at the talent, Katrina’s really not that talented. Her main talent is catching flies. I don’t think that would win any ribbons.
Here is Gracie and Katrina in the tail waggin’ competition. They did so well!
She and Katrina received the 3rd place ribbon that she asked Katrina to go for. I’m proud of them!
There is also a face lickin’ contest that happens during our dog show. Gracie and Katrina have never been lucky enough to place in this competition. Guess what! Today, they came in 4th place. Here’s a video of them in that contest. It’s just the cutest thing. They put peanut butter on all the kid’s faces and let the dogs loose and the lickin’ begins. It’s a sight, but it’s a fun sight.
I hope you enjoyed these pictures and videos. This is always one of the highlights of our year.
