I’ve had fibromyalgia syndrome since around 1999. It was hard for the doctors to determine a diagnosis at the time. My symptoms could be explained by other ailments- depression and anxiety, widespread pain and tenderness, difficulty sleeping and fatigue. As you know from previous posts, my life with Gracie keeps me pretty busy. Having fibromyalgia sure puts a damper on a lot things that Gracie and I try to do sometimes. Gracie knows that at times we just have to skip our scheduled plans and chill out at home.
For me, pain and fatigue is the prominent symptom of chronic fibromyalgia. I hurt mainly in my shoulders and lower back. At times, my back is so tender that I can’t stand for my bra to touch my shoulders. It’s beyond uncomfortable. It also hurts NOT to wear a bra. It’s just a terrible predicament.
Since I am in pain most of the time, I have trouble sleeping. I toss and turn. I have trouble finding a spot that I’m comfortable in. Either my shoulder will be sensitive or my hip will be. I’m constantly trying to find a spot where I can rest. In the end, I’m not getting any rest at all.
I also suffer from depression and anxiety. I’ve battled depression since I was in my early 20’s though, well before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I’m sure the fibromyalgia makes my depression worse, but I’m not sure. It’s hard not to get depressed when you are in pain most of the time.
