Ok, everyone~ Christmas Eve Gift! Gracie woke Michael and I both up and got us at midnight and we forked our small gift over to her. Do your families celebrate this? We also do it for New Years Eve.
I grew up with this tradition. My Mother said that my Dad grew up with it. It had been done in the Skimahorn family (yes, that’s my maiden name lol) for quite some time. My Dad said he was told it started out with nuts or an orange or an apple. Just something very small, just a little gift. It was something fun to do, something to “get” each other.
When we come along (me, my brother and my sister), the rules kind of changed. We were given candy. I always received chocolate covered cherries. For the life of me, I can not remember what Louie and Amanda were given. When I married Don and we had Gracie, Don ramped it up just a little bit more. He gave her Barbies or one her smaller presents. All the parents “knew” that the kids were going to beat the parents saying “Christmas Eve” Gift.
I really hope Gracie keeps this going on with her kids.
So, if you have a chance, let me know if you celebrate this little tradition or if you know ANYTHING about it’s beginnings. I’d love to learn more.
