Since people were just kids, staying up late to help bring in the New Year is so often a favorite tradition. And part of that tradition is finding ways to make it fun and exciting, especially if you want to throw an amazing New Year’s party. The right décor, music, DJ, and food can make or break you holiday festivities.
If you want to have a great party, start with thinking about where in your house you are going to have the people to gather. Make sure there is enough room to dance, move around, mingle, and just have some holiday fun. But also make sure there are places for people to sit and relax, talk, eat, and just hang out. Try using your living room with the furniture outlining it, or set off to one side leaving a large open space for fun.
It can also be nice to add a few touches for ambiance and holiday fun like little white Christmas lights strung high up, fun New Year’s decorations that you can purchase at your local party store, and maybe even a bulletin board where people can write down and share their New Year’s resolutions.
Food is so important to any party, but especially one where people are going to be partying late into the night. Because people will be planning on hanging around for a while, and not wanting to get bogged down or lethargic, finding good finger foods or appetizer types bites that can be floating around all evening is your best bet. The Food Network website has some great recipes like bacon wrapped pineapple shrimp, lamb meatball sliders, bacon pork pops on lemongrass sticks and even ‘good luck’ recipes like Three Kings Bread.
Do be aware when you are preparing food who your guests will be and if there are vegetarians, or people with allergies. Martha Stewart has vegan food recipes for chili, and pizza bites that can be a great alternative for people with dietary restrictions.
No New Year’s party will be complete without some fun festive music. Even if you are entertaining a crowd of friends that aren’t into dancing, having some background music keeps people’s spirits up, and helps them to stay awake and have a great time. Make sure if you are going to do music though you are properly prepared for a party atmosphere.
A boom box in the corner, or an IPod with a speaker set won’t necessarily allow for the DJ to make announcements and the announcements and games that the DJ runs can be one of the most enjoyable parts of a party. You need to have certain commercial speaker systems and amps to ensure a quality sound that will be enjoyable for you and your guests. Make sure your sound system includes PA speakers and good microphones If you do not have your own sound system, you can rent systems of all sizes for very reasonable prices.
There are so many wonderful things about the holidays, but starting off a new year with friends or family in a fun and happy atmosphere is definitely one of the best parts of the season. Make sure to have some yummy food, enjoyable and appropriate setting, and some good music and it will be a New Year’s to remember!
